California: A State of Compassion

Sande Hart, FounderSande Hart, Founder
In 2011 the dream of a State of Compassion was birthed by a small thoughtful group of women in a backyard in Southern California.  I was entrusted to carry on the work to see our dream realized.

It would be the first of it's kind in the world. It would be cared for with integrity and all voices would be heard. It's leadership would practice rules of consultation based in old age wisdom, or else it's integrity would be thwarted and the foundation could not hold it.  It would be necessary to host Cities of Compassion throughout the state before earning the privilege to approach state level leadership.

When that time came, and the grassroots met the policy makers, there would be no stopping a proliferation of compassion, healing and a new paradigm of humanity among all living things of California. Safety net issues would be solved through collective impact and our children will grow up in a world where there is enough for everyone, our planet will once again be sacralized, and California would model of a world that works for everyone.

The real leaders of a Compassionate community are the children. Yet, this requires their community showing them the way, through practice, behavior and intention.

This vision has no end. It's an ongoing process and requires all of us to remember our common humanity and our innate imperative that is compassion.  It is hardwired into all humans for our survival. As the Charter For Compassion states, "Compassion is the clear, dynamic and luminous force for our polarized world."

Our Mission

Our Mission is to serve as a network and catalyst for Cities of Compassion and Compassionate Partners throughout California.

We host the space to communicate and share resources and tools that advance compassion and related values and empower stakeholders to put compassion into action through social media, educational dialogue, and community building.

Our Vision

Compassionate California holds the vision for a state that is unified in its commitment to effectively preserve healthy, equitable and resilient communities through the methods of cooperation, collaboration and collective impact through compassionate action insuring a state that focuses on the values of compassionate action and compassionate decision making as a common narrative and a model for the global community.
